At Steve Landers Toyota, the safety of our customers is our top priority, and we feel confident in the safety of Toyota vehicles. Toyota is well known for the impressive safety of their vehicles. In 2019, nine Toyota vehicles were named IIHS Top Safety Picks, and most new Toyotas come standard with a dynamic suite of advanced safety features called Toyota Safety Sense.

What is Toyota Safety Sense?

Toyota Safety Sense is a suite of active safety features that are included standard on many new Toyotas at no additional cost. The features include:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist

  • Automatic-Dimming High Beams

  • Lane Tracing Assist

  • Road Sign Assist

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

This system uses an integrated camera and radar system to detect hazards ahead.

The system provides the driver with an audible and visual alert in order to reduce the likelihood of a collision with a car or pedestrian. If the driver does not react, the system can automatically brake to lessen the impact or avoid the collision completely. This system is also available with bicyclist detection depending on the vehicle and trim level.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) uses radar technology and a camera to detect vehicles ahead. If the vehicle ahead of you is traveling slower than your set speed, the system will automatically slow your vehicle to maintain a safe, preset distance with the vehicle ahead. The system is able to slow the vehicle without deactivating cruise control, so when there is no longer a vehicle in front of you, your vehicle will return to your preset speed.

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is designed to detect lanes on roads with clear lane markings. This system only activates when the vehicle is traveling at 32 MPH or faster. If the vehicle departs from its lane, the system will give an audible and visual alert. If the driver does not return to their lane after the alert, the system can automatically steer the vehicle back into its lane.

Automatic-Dimming High Beams

Automatic-Dimming High Beam Headlights allow drivers to see more clearly at night without disturbing other drivers. The system uses a camera to detect the headlights from oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles in order to switch between high and low beams to provide the necessary amount of light.

Lane Tracing Assist

When Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is in use and lane markers are visible, Lane Tracing Assist uses the lines on the roads and vehicles ahead to keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

Road Sign Assist

By utilizing a forward-facing intelligent camera, Road Sign Assist is designed to detect road signs like speed limits, stop signs, yield signs and more and displays them on the multi-information display within the vehicle. However, all vehicle actions must be initiated by the driver as this system does not work automatically.
